Kevin Spacey’s Holiguards to screen at Venice Film Festival

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Kevin Spacey will attend the Venice Film Festival with Holiguards Saga — The Portal of Force. The sci-fi epic marks Spacey’s feature directorial debut and his first return to the Lido in twenty years. The trailer will premiere on August 29 at a special event with the cast and crew.

The festival clarified that the screening will not be part of its official lineup. In May, Spacey traveled to Cannes to accept a “prize” at an event that the festival disavowed. At that time, producers of The Awakening described the occasion as “guerrilla marketing” for the actor, who has faced multiple sexual misconduct allegations.

The cast also includes Dolph Lundgren (The Expendables), Tyrese Gibson (Morbius), Brianna Hildebrand (Deadpool), Disha Patani (Bharat), Eric Roberts (Righteous Gemstones), Harry Goodwins (The Gentlemen), Swen Temmel (Clean Up Crew), and Sonia Couling (Operation Bloodhunt).

Set in the near future, Holiguards imagines hidden supernatural forces infiltrating Earth, sparking a secret war between two ancient sects—the Holiguards and the Statiguards—for control over humanity’s fate. In the midst of this conflict, a young woman discovers she is the daughter of the rival leader and may hold the key to ending the war. Meanwhile, a Statiguard warrior prepares a nuclear strike on Paris that could awaken a primordial entity known as “the First.”

The film, intended as the first installment of a planned saga, was shot in Mexico on a $10 million budget. The screenplay was written by Sergey Torchilin and Lado Akhotnikov.

In June, at the “Italian World Series Festival,” Spacey said he was “very happy” to be back in acting, adding that while he forgives those who “judged too quickly” regarding the sexual assault allegations, he will not work with them again. Spacey was dismissed from House of Cards and multiple other projects in 2017 after facing several misconduct accusations, which led to bankruptcy.

Holiguards Saga — The Portal of Force is slated for release in 2025.
